SVP Kumta - Rules and Regulations

Eligibility for Admission:
        To seek admission of the three year Diploma courses, a candidate must have passed the S.S.L.C. Examination conducted by Karnataka State Secondary Education Board or its equivalent examinations. The candidate should have studied Science and Mathematics subjects in 10th standard with minimum 30 marks in any one of the subject with a total marks of 70. However, all the admission made by the institute are provisional, subject to approval of the Director of Technical Education, Bangalore, Government of Karnataka.

General Rules of Admissions:
        A candidate who seeks admission as Karnataka candidates must have studied at least for five years in Government recognized educational institutions/schools in the state of Karnataka, at any time prior to the last date stipulated for submission of application. However, this condition is relaxable in case of children of Central Government Employees, Defense Personnel etc.

        Those candidates who have passed examination other than S.S.L.C. Examination conducted by Karnataka State Secondary Education Board must obtain "Eligibility Certificate" from the Director of Technical Education, Bangalore.

Attendance:
        As per the rules of Board of Technical Examination, each student has to attend 100% classes both in theory and practical. In case, he/she unable to attend due to sickness or any other genuine cause, he/she has to apply to the Principal in writing giving proper reason. Total absence from the classes shall not be more than 25% of the total number of classes in each subject.

        If the candidate has less than 75% attendance in any subjects, he/she will be detained from appearing  annual examination of that year.

        The college also insists on submission of assignments, practical records from time to time and each student has to strictly observe this rule. If the records are not submitted in time, the concerned Head of Departments may not permit the student to attend the subsequent Theory/Practical classes. In extreme cases, defaulters will not be permitted to appear semester examinations.

        Internal Assessment marks will be calculated based on the weightage for the attendance and performance in the class test. Three internal test are carried at the end of 6th, 10th and 14th week from the commencement of classes in each term for theory subjects and two internal practical test are carried in each term. The progress report consists of attendance and test performances. Student progress will be intimated to parents in time.

Discipline:
        The college authorities expect every students to behave in a manner befitting the status of an Engineer. With this in view, strict discipline is enforced.

        Any breach of indiscipline will be punished. In extreme cases student(s) may be expelled from the institution.

Safety:
        All students of the polytechnic are covered under "Student Safety Insurance Policy" during the course of their study

Tests / Assignments / Examinations:
        A minimum of three theory test and two practical tests will be conducted every semester and the progress report and attendance report will be sent tot the parents every month. Similarly lab assignments must be completed within time period. Those students who fail to take tests and fail to submit Lab records shall not be allowed to register for the semester examination.

Projects and Industrial Visits.
        As part of the curriculum, the students have to take project work in their final year. Each department allots various projects of theoretical, practical oriented

        The projects will give the students the insight into the working of designs and make them familiar with fabrication. The college authorities will arrange visits to Industries and Project sites for the benefit of the final year students.

Results:
        Due to constant monitoring of the progress of the students, the Polytechnic has been able to produce good results in the Board Exams.

Working Hours:
        The institution works for six days in a week. the timings are 9.00 am to 5.00 pm with a lunch break from 1.00 pm to 2.00 pm and on Saturday, 9.00 am to 1.00 pm

        Normally the college starts from 1st July for Odd semesters and 11th December for even semesters.
